Earth history and the sedimentary record

Research Overview

Chemical sediments—minerals that precipitates in oceans, lakes, and porewaters—are windows into Earth’s ancient environments. As Earth’s surface has evolved, so too have patterns within the stratigraphic record, including changes in sedimentary textures and large-scale geometries.

My research uses these deposits to unravel the co-evolution of life and Earth’s surface environments. I am particularly interested in feedbacks between physical and chemical sedimentology in carbonate and evaporite environments. My current projects span both modern and ancient environments using field work, petrography, modeling, and geochemical data.
